Laser Skin Resurfacing

Do you want to feel confident in your skin but have trouble due to fine lines and wrinkles, shallow scars, or even sun damage? Perhaps your skin is unresponsive after a facelift or has liver spots? We can help! Laser skin resurfacing is a highly effective procedure to bring back your youthful, smooth skin and rebuild your confidence!

What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is a non-invasive procedure that utilizes powerful lasers to reduce the appearance of imperfections in the skin. During the procedure, a device emits beams of light onto damaged or uneven skin, causing damage to those skin cells.  New skin is prompted to grow, and collagen production increases.

Are There Different Types Of Laser Treatments Available?

There are several different laser treatment options available for resurfacing the skin.  They vary based on the issues being addressed.  The most common treatments are ablative laser treatment and non-ablative laser treatment. Ablative lasers remove the outermost layer of skin, which helps in dealing with problems like scarring, hyperpigmentation, and skin laxity. On the other hand, non-ablative lasers apply stress by heating the cells in deeper dermal layers, making them produce new collagen and causing less damage to the outer layer of the skin.

Is Laser Skin Resurfacing Safe?

Laser skin resurfacing can significantly enhance the appearance of your skin when performed by a skilled and knowledgeable professional. However, in the hands of an untrained individual, lasers can be ineffective or even hazardous. Therefore, it’s essential to choose a laser resurfacing provider based on the individual’s experience, training, and qualifications rather than simply selecting the one offering the best deal on this service.

Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Have Side Effects?

As with any procedure, there are some associated side effects to be aware of. With Laser skin resurfacing, these side effects are typically mild and self-resolve quite quickly.  Some side effects may include:

  • Blisters
  • Bruising
  • Crusting
  • Brown spots
  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Sunspots
  • Blemishes

These side effects are not a cause for concern, as they are a part of the process involved with laser resurfacing. Often, the side effects may last anywhere from two to ten days. However, it is uncommon for a patient to experience all these symptoms simultaneously after treatment.

Is Laser Skin Resurfacing Painful?

Laser skin resurfacing is a relatively painless procedure.  Most of the time, patients describe the sensation as that of a rubber band snapping against the skin. However, the level of discomfort may increase based on certain medical conditions or medications.  Oftentimes, a cooling gel or numbing cream is applied to the skin before treatment to ensure the utmost comfort to the patient during the procedure.

Who Shouldn’t Get Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have active acne, or have other medical conditions may not be a candidate for laser skin resurfacing. During your initial consultation, your provider will discuss all of the above and any underlying conditions to determine whether laser skin resurfacing is right for you.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is an FDA-approved and noninvasive treatment option that is typically suitable for any skin type, depending on the type of treatment used.  There are several options available to help patients reach their skin goals.  During your initial consultation, a member of our Medical Spa team will discuss your goals and any health concerns to determine which laser skin resurfacing treatment is best for you!
